Mon Brown Denim



If you know us, you probably know how much we love denim. But there is another fabric we cherish just as deeply: hickory denim.

Our new Mont Brown Hickory is our mountain denim. Its name combines Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the European Alps, with the warm browns that signal the arrival of autumn.

Hickory denim has a long history. First introduced more than a century ago as workwear for laborers, it became the fabric of choice for overalls, painter pants, and other durable garments designed to stand up to hard work while disguising stains.

For more than thirty years, we have continued to develop our own original hickory denim. Over that time, we have created nearly eighty different variations, experimenting with colors, stripe widths, and yarns in search of the right balance.

It may sound bold to say, but we believe few clothing makers have devoted themselves to hickory quite the way we have. In fact, it is rare today to find anyone weaving an original hickory fabric from the ground up.

Where Dash Indigo Meets Mont Brown

Two colors, woven into one new expression of hickory.

Traditionally, hickory denim is woven with alternating indigo and natural ecru yarns. For this collection, we paired Dash Indigo, whose vivid blue gradually softens with age, with Mont Brown—our own chestnut-inspired beige brown—in place of the natural ecru yarn.

The result is a smoky tone, developed through years of studying vintage hickory fabrics.

Alongside Mont Brown Hickory, we also created a solid Mont Brown Denim. It, too, is woven with Dash Indigo in the warp and Mont Brown in the weft—our mountain denim.

At first glance, it looks like a classic pair of jeans. Look a little closer, and you'll discover a warmth and depth of color that quietly recalls the richness of chestnuts.

Mont Brown Denim has a crisp, refined look even in its one-wash state. With a carefully developed washed finish, however, it takes on even greater character.

The most challenging part was perfecting the wash. We carefully removed just enough surface dye while preserving the right amount of color beneath, achieving a delicate balance that was anything but simple.

The muted tones of Dash Indigo and the softly faded hues of Mont Brown open up a wider range of styling possibilities.
