Both the warp and weft threads of this fabric are dyed in indigo, woven into a deep shade we call "Nando Nando." Its fresh, washed-out look adds a special charm. The silhouette, named "Charlotte 5," is inspired by the graceful stance of French architect Charlotte Perriand, with a beautifully feminine line that flows from the waist to the hips.

Many of 45R's Japanese denim fabrics carry names inspired by grains like rice, wheat, and sesame. For us, denim is like a daily staple—a foundation we rely on, much like these essential foods at the table. Each piece embodies the Japanese craftsmanship that defines 45R, serving as a versatile base that can be paired with a variety of fabrics throughout the year.

This denim, woven with our favorite Zimbabwe cotton, has a firm, defined texture and a refreshingly dry feel. There’s nothing like slipping into it after washing and letting it dry naturally in the sun—it’s an unparalleled experience.

How Nando Nando Denim Ages Gracefully

The Dual Indigo Secret Behind Its Unique Aging

A denim crafted with intention, Nando Nando represents a deep commitment to the art of indigo. Unlike conventional denim, where the weft threads remain undyed, the Nando Nando fabric uses indigo-dyed yarns for both warp and weft. This unique approach results in a denim that exudes richness—an exceptional depth of color from every angle, creating a deeply unified indigo experience.

The initial appearance is intense, almost painterly, with a blue so rich it seems to pull you into its depths. Over time, as the jeans are worn and washed, the deep, nuanced hues slowly begin to reveal their true character, reflecting the journey of the wearer. The premium quality of these jeans ensures that their evolution is gradual and personal, adding to the allure of owning a pair of truly made-in-Japan jeans.

With typical denim, the indigo layer gradually gives way to the underlying natural-colored weft threads, creating the familiar interplay of blue and white—a high-contrast fade that speaks to years of wear. In Nando Nando, however, the weft is indigo-dyed, preserving the intensity of blue over a much longer period. This creates a different, more subtle fading effect, characterized by a deep blue patina that is distinctive among premium jeans.

Through continued wear, the denim's unique texture begins to emerge. The unevenness of the weave comes alive, highlighting the raw beauty of indigo in its many forms.
The edges, once crisp, begin to show hints of white, and the classic whiskers at the hips start to form—signatures of well-worn denim that tell a story all their own.
Even as it wears, the indigo-dyed weft remains. The high contrast of blue and white emerges only after countless washes, the shadows and highlights playing off one another in a way that makes each pair truly unique.

The journey of Japanese denim is unlike any other, and with Nando Nando, the transformation feels especially rewarding. Patience is key—indigo's deep color might initially bleed, a mark of its authenticity, but this is all part of the experience of owning something crafted to evolve. The journey is as much about discovery as it is about quality, and these jeans offer a glimpse into the unique beauty of authentic Japanese craftsmanship.
