The gathered sleeves evoke the iconic flower of Hawaii, the Lehua. This blossom holds significance for the local people, often adorning their necklaces, known as leis. Wear it buttoned up or as a layering piece.
We've depicted the fruit, symbolized by the Hawaiian word HUA, using indigo discharge dyeing.
The discharge dyeing technique, where color is removed to create patterns, employs 4 to 6 or more different plates to achieve a delicate gradation akin to sumi-e ink painting. For the fruits that serve as accents, an additional layer of white pigment is printed. 45R's Aloha shirts, showcasing Japanese craftsmanship, also charm with their gradual fading over time.
