The Power Loom Stamp: A Testament to Heritage and Quality

The gravity loom is indispensable in the creation of 45R's Japanese artisan denim. With only a few of these antique looms still operational in Japan, they have garnered worldwide attention for their rarity and historical significance.

The weaving process involves inserting thread wound on wooden shuttles, which are then methodically woven with a repetitive, powerful clatter. This process requires frequent thread changes, contributing to its labor-intensive nature.
The gravity loom weaves slowly yet powerfully, producing only enough fabric for about 20 pairs of denim per day.

Selvedge denim woven on a gravity loom is our favorite, characterized by its unique texture and pronounced unevenness.
Each piece of denim crafted from this fabric bears a special stamp: the “Burumaru Rikishi” stamp, symbolizing the unsung hero of our production process. Our skilled artisans apply this stamp by hand, ensuring each denim piece is marked with authenticity and care.
